Member Alert - Beware of Robo-Call Scams This Holiday Season!
It’s the holiday season, and with it comes an increase in scams. The latest scam this season are robo-calls involving the names of two companies everyone knows, Apple and Amazon.
The scam starts with consumers receiving a call claiming there is a problem with their account or order, a payment overdue, or even claiming there is fraud on the consumer’s account. The message will then ask victims to press a button prompt or call back a number in an attempt to gather account information or personal information. Once someone takes that next step, they will be asked for more information usually compromising their personal information which can put their financial security and information at risk.
Things to remember if you receive a phone call like this:
- Do NOT press button prompts to speak with a customer support agent
- Do NOT call back any phone numbers in the message
- NEVER give out your personal information to unverified sources over the phone.
As always, if you suspect your personal information has been compromised, contact us immediately at 866.661.8328 to review and secure your account. To learn more and to stay up-to-date on current scams, visit https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/features/scam-alerts.
